The Coral Castle Museum & Historical Archive

The Coral Castle Museum & Historical Archive is a curated digital archive dedicated to the documentation, preservation, and study of Coral Castle and the life and work of its builder, Edward Leedskalnin.

This project presents historical material—including photographs, tools, inscriptions, writings, and records—using an archival and museum-based approach. Content is organized to distinguish documented evidence from later interpretation, allowing visitors to examine the historical record clearly and responsibly.

Purpose of the Archive

The purpose of this archive is to preserve and present material associated with Coral Castle as historical artifacts, rather than folklore or speculation. Objects, images, and texts are documented based on observable characteristics, preserved records, and verifiable sources.

Where uncertainty exists, it is stated openly. Where documentation is available, it is presented directly.

The Builder

Edward Leedskalnin (1887–1951) was the sole builder of Coral Castle and the author of several self-published books and pamphlets. His life, work, and writings form the foundation of this archive.

The Builder section provides a documented biographical overview of Leedskalnin, including his early life, immigration to the United States, decades of construction work in Florida, published writings, and historical legacy.

The Tools

Construction of Coral Castle involved a wide range of tools, mechanical components, and temporary structures. Many of these objects remain preserved on site or are documented through historical photographs.

The Tools section presents these items as historical artifacts, described based on visible characteristics and documented context rather than assumed function.

The Writings

Edward Leedskalnin authored several books, pamphlets, and printed materials during his lifetime. These writings provide direct insight into his ideas, beliefs, and the subjects he chose to address publicly.

The Writings section catalogs these publications alongside related newspaper articles and documented print material, preserving Leedskalnin’s written work as primary historical sources.

The Museum

The Museum section serves as a digital exhibition space for artifacts, photographs, inscriptions, and preserved materials associated with Coral Castle. Items are organized and presented in a manner consistent with physical museum collections.

This section highlights objects as they exist today and documents their condition, placement, and known history.

Archival Approach

This archive does not seek to explain how Coral Castle was built beyond what is supported by physical evidence and historical documentation. Instead, it preserves what remains observable, recorded, and verifiable.

By presenting materials in this manner, the archive allows visitors to draw informed conclusions based on documented facts rather than speculation.
